The circuit breaker is there to protect...

the wiring from the panel to the device. The fuse is there to protect the device (VHF). A manufacturer supplied fuse should always be left in. Odds are the fuse will never blow - if it does the VHF has a problem.

Quite a few years ago Hella fans used incredibly light wire with cheap insulation. I had several wired into the lighting circuit. With all the flexing of the wire from adjusting the fan the insulation broke down. I had never seen wire glow white before.

Lesson learned: wire in a circuit must be capable of carrying the trip current of the overload protection device (fuse or circuit breaker) without overheating.
