Stainless shackles
In Response To: A non marine store source ()

The problem with stainless is that it's vulnerable to stress cracks and crevice corrosion in a way that is much less likely in galvanized steel or other alloys. Yet we all use it for rigging and chain plates, and other critical part like eyes and cleats. I had a failure on the tack shackle for my genoa -- similar to the failure in the image below. (not my image, but the story was relayed that this was used for an anchor shackle)
