Too late now, I'm up in Lake Tashmoo...

Hey Tom,

But a "Sketchy bottom" is no problem for me - I've got a 'New Generation Anchor', after all... (grin)

yeah, if this were really gonna be a serious blow straight out of the N, this wouldn't be the greatest spot. But I feel pretty good about where I am, for this storm. I'm as far into the southern part of the lake you can go, and there's a slight dogleg that offers a bit of protection. But there's very high ground and trees all around me, so for a breeze anywhere else than out of the N, I should be pretty protected...

Good news is, there are only 2 other anchored boats in here, all the rest as you've noted are locals on moorings... I will only have one anchored boat upwind of me, several hundred yards away, when the wind is N. And that boat happens to be a very shipshape-looking Bristol Channel Cutter, so odds are he knows what he's doing...

Hmmm, on the other hand, those are the kind of guys who might still favor a CQR, so who knows ? (grin)

The only annoyance here, is I had to re-anchor a few times before I could get myself right where I wanted - or more precisely, NEEDED to be... The reason being, there are several moorings in here that look suitable for 100-footers, but all of them are unoccupied. Of course, they still greatly restrict anchoring space and swinging room. My guess is that all of the residents around here have placed these moorings to have "just in case", but they are in fact rarely used (none appear to have pennants)... Hell, maybe they're just there to keep the riff-raff like me out of their private lake... (grin)

One of the local guys swung by, he was out prepping and checking on a few boats that are in his care. Nice guy, helpful with advice, and he seemed to think I was in a good spot for this one... And, the closest boat to me is a beautiful Jarvis Newman lobster yacht named SAVING GRACE, so I've gotta figure that's some good Karma, no?

And, last but not least, I've scored an unsecured wifi signal, so that settles it, I'm not moving now... (grin)

Had another beautiful sail up from Menemsha this morning, wish it could have lasted longer... This experience is pretty surreal - here it is, 4th of July, a perfect morning for sailing, and I only saw ONE other boat out there near Woods Hole, probably a local just out for a quick daysail... Very strange... It's a shame so few folks have been out on the water the past few days, much of the sailing, and weather, has just been perfect...

best regards,

Jon
