Hi Charlie
In Response To: Welcome back Steve! ()

As you know I've got a few opinions and it's my opinion that there is no shelter or anchorage between Port Angeles and Neah Bay on the US shore.

Sure in settled conditions you can anchor anywhere you like, but the bays are just not big enough to provide any real shelter and the anxiety of trying to anchor there isn't going to make it worth doing. I'm pretty conservative on risk and just wouldn't take such a chance unless it was a windless night and sure to stay that way.

I've been watching that gale off the coast of Vancouver. It's been out there for two months or more. Ever since I started looking. We were out around Swiftsure Bank back in June and there were 10 - 12 foot swells coming from that area. We didn't sail far enough out to get into the wind but it's out there.

I sure would like to get up to the Broken Group. I've got all the charts, it's only 50 miles from Neah Bay or so. That's kind of my next logical destination. I think if you stick close to the Island going up there you can stay out of that NW wind. It probably wont happen this year though. I've got to keep working to pay for all this fun.

Korrigan is in Anacortes these days. We had it out of the water for almost a year last year getting a major and extremely expensive blister job done. But it looks great now and sails a knot faster than before. Since it cost such a fortune I've been using it a lot trying to lower the dollar per mile of sailing cost. It's been a great year so far.

We've had it up there in Skyline Marina for the last three years or so. It's a spectacular place to have a boat. This time of year I can't stand all the crowding in the Islands so that keeps me out in the Straits, but that's where I'd prefer to be anyway. We've been going to Sequim Bay recently; there are buoys there that never get used and it's a great weekend destination from Skyline when the Westerly is blowing.

But I am looking forward to the end of the season and getting back into the Islands to kayak and hike and sit around rather than being on the go all the time.
