We have done some offshore sailing on a couple of large boats. One is a 46' Morris the other a 70' one off. I remember noticing how heavy the jib sheets were after tacking the Morris a couple times. Everything is bigger and heavier. The rules change a bit in that you are less likely to be able to muscle your way through a problem.Thinking becomes even more important.
For what it is worth, the 70' boat gets sailed back and forth to the Bahamas from New England annually, she is typically crewed by her owners, husband and wife. Way too much boat for me but they have been at it for about 20 years now so it clearly can be done.
Sailing season always has me at least thinking about getting in shape. The reality is, sailing, especially offshore sailing, is hard work no matter what boat you are on.
As for getting a little beat up by square waves, well that simply is never any fun. Those are the times I wonder why exactly I decided sailing would be a fun hobby and think about gardening...So far I have always come around.
