The regs in Chicago used to require that a bar be closed for at least 30 minutes each day -- I guess that was to see if anyone dead was still in the place ;^))).

Anyway, I recall (from my youth) occassionally stepping into one of those places. They did have a "regular" feel -- sometimes with an edge. If you were unobtrusive, you might be welcomed -- if not entirely welcome.
