Appears to have broken off on the rocks after they got the crew off.

That 44,000 pound plus hull with a full encapusated lead keel didn't match up to the rocks, swell, and breaking waves. Looks like it broke apart at the bulkhead before the aft cabin.

Those boats don't draw much -- 5'=3"

I guess that full length keel with it's "protected" prop hole and attached rudder didn't provide miraculous protection from such a serious grounding. (Spoken by a guy with a fin keeled J/Boat ;^))))
