Not to mention, they are very widely spaced apart, it's pretty easy to 'weave' a course thru that area that will give them a comfortably wide berth, if need be...
They've always been lit when I went by, but it's probably been 2 years since I actually passed thru that area... As you mention, I'm usually either well outside them, or well inshore... They were lit with quick flashing lights, almost sort of a strobe, tough to miss, and visible from a LONG way off... But again, that sounds like dated information, now...
Personally, I think all the smaller unlit buoys inshore that delineate fish havens and the like are a far greater hazard along that coast after dark... I don't trust their charted position to necessarily be as accurate as the towers, and it would be quite easy to hit one of those... One of those towers, not so much...
