I will look into traceroute. This has been going on for a while (weeks) - through many reboots, on two PCs on the same DSL line. Using Avast, free version.

I think I'll go to the local library and see if it is slow there too. They are on the same local telco dsl network.

PS. Chrome browser acts the same.
