That wouldn't even be possible on our engine - and I suspect difficult/messing on most. The oil would just spill out of the filter when I hold it horizontal to the mount and jiggle it a bit to get the threads aligned and started. Do you have remote filters? Those are what I would like.

I don't think pre-filling matters much if you change the oil after running the engine a bit to get it warm. Enough warm oil stays up in the engine between the time of oil change and restarting the engine to test for leaks that the engine is lubricated enough for that brief bit that the sump oil takes to get through an empty filter.
