The sternman(bait bag stuffer) was jabbing the big chunks alongside the hull, with a stout heavy pole. The captain would goose the throttle momentarily-pause, then the momentum of the bow would fold into the ice with a crunching sound, then the boat would stop dead. I don't think that was a very good idea(ice is hard and sharp, right?).
I took this photo this am. A balmy 60 degrees on this side of the glass, a full 74 degrees warmer than the other side of the glass.
Haven't seen any boats go out today.
