While we've done a lot of kayaking the last couple of years, a few years before that we picked up a copy of the Great Florida Birding Trail, West Florida Guide. It led us to lots of little, and a few not so little, wild places places that we would never have known existed without the guide. Now I keep an updated version on my tablet. Most of the sites in the guide are accessible by land but are not in many other tourist guides. http://floridabirdingtrail.com/index.php/trip/trails/west/ You are right though, a boat does open up a lot more less traveled territory.
