It uses the Lithium 18650 batteries which I've never used before, so I had to also order a couple of batteries and a charger.
The light is supposed to put out 1800 Lumens, so it should be significantly brighter than the one I've been using and like so much (which is already very bright). After I've had a chance to use it awhile, I'll let the board know if I've changed my mind and have a new favorite.
Based on my own ignorance, my biggest concerns going into it are:
- Is it really noticeably brighter than the ones I have been using?
- Is it too blindingly bright to use around the cockpit and while working forward?
- How long a battery charge will last under my normal usage pattern?
- What's the lifetime of the battery in actual use (how many times it can be recharged before either it's capacity diminishes or the battery fails altogether)?
I like having a REALLY bright light around the cockpit that I can both shine at other vessels at night to get their attention and also to shine down into the water while on the hook. For these purposes, the way I figure it, the brighter the better. But I can also see the possibility that it might be too bright for normal use around the boat.
The only way to really answer these questions is to try it. LIke I said, I'll let the board know how it goes.
