Hi all,
I said I'd report on the flashlight when I got it and it just came in. I haven't had a chance to use it in real life conditions, but I thought I'd give you some initial impressions.
To begin with, the new light is physically smaller than the old one. It's still big enough to get a grip on, but will fit into a pocket easier.
Instead of a switch to turn it on and off, you (un)screw the bulb assembly a bit. Despite it being more robust (no lever to break off), I prefer the lever on the old one as you could easily turn it on and off one handed. The new one requires two hands.
As advertized, it is significantly brighter that the old one. Bear in mind, the old one was already one of the brightest flashlights I'd ever owned. That makes the new one extremely bright. Whether it's too bright for normal use around the cockpit and up forward on a dark night remains to be seen.
Here's a quick visual comparison of the two. Note how much more light is put out by the new flashlight on the left.
I will definitely be keeping one of the new ones in the cockpit cubby from now on to shine at other vessels to get their attention and to play with the fish at anchor.
Once I get a battery fully charged, I'll run a test and see how long it will power the light for before failing.
