Other alternative..

..is what I used to use when ice boating. Track shoes with 1/4" spikes - great for traction and getting the boat moving, but not much for warmth. Started with woolen socks, but they would get wet and feet would get cold. Then tried putting baggies over the woolen socks - better. Finally ended up with the track shoes and some neoprene foam dive booties.
Bought the track shoes at Jan Merrill's running shop in New London. She wanted to know where I was going to be running, so I explained the spiked shoes were for sailing. She got this horrified look on her face, apparently picturing me running around the teak decks of a Swan 38 with the spikes. I explained as best I could, but I'm not sure she got the whole picture..
