Some cretins that are my friends, don't even remove the paper bag that surronds the bottle before they drink from it :^)))) I will say that a screw-top on a bottle is better when you don't drink from it too often. I've a bottle of pretty expensive Scotch that had the cork break-off. That's pretty depressing for the crew that were FORCED not to waste the 1/3 of a bottle of 18 year-old stuff that had about 25 years total time before consumption.
We decant our coffee only to keep it in thermos when sailing at night or on very cold mornings. The Stainless Steel vacumn bottles are pretty durable. The THERMOS glass units work better but have a tendancy to break when dropped on the sole or into the sink by the "neuorsurgeons (not)" that seem to inhabit the galley late at night.
