This could be fun. On the big picture, you're homeless. That's an amazing change for your wallet(forget mortgage).:) We're in tax season so home based deductions are wallet costs:property taxes, insurance/insurance/insurance, water-sewer,electricity, fuel(s),maintenance(plumbers, roofers, appliance repairman-endless et al, lawn care, snow removal, garage door guy, smoked up painters, cable-telephone-gas tools(gas-gas-gas),new kitchen, new bathroom, never ending rot,...ok that's enough. We know a home is a gold mine investment, but it doesn't come cheaply(it's my profession)!
Forget all of the above(for now-this is only temporary for you, I'm sure).
The similar holding and ownership costs of a boat - in comparison to the 'above' - are miniscule. You are now the 1%.
Some of us are cursed to live, the good life, on land or sea. We're out there to enjoy what the world has to offer(witness Max Fletcher seeing the world). That curse comes with a price.
100 Day Big Ticket Items: Dockage(moorings-pffft), restaurants, sumptuous provisions(regular shoreside foraging for onboard enjoyment), spirits, shoreside attractions and events, travel away from the boat. Trinkets.
Because it's just 100 days, we can remove things like repowers and new sails or costly sinkings. But, this is a celebratory 100 days for you two, you earned it.
Shoreside lunches and dinners(not at the highway buffet): I'll say 8 units/ week averaging 75/unit--- 600.
Provisions-fresh produce, local specialties, entertaining friends/family increase, you like to cook: 200
Spirits; Some local brews, $10 bottles, above: friends/family modifyer(+adult kids and spouses) 100
Museums, shows, attractions, trans., misc. boat operating, nagging ties to land-still costing 300
I'll stop there and round to: 1000/wk=13,000 / 100 days.
Think that's high? Maybe, but compare to a vacation abroad? And consider this:
If you weren't cursed with this sort of 'good life' ,like our friends Iain and Fiona, you would do without -ALL- of these Big Ticket Items(except spirits-vino collapso-gigantico and PBR cases). Even do without a communication cell/G3 plan(find internet occaisionally).
Their good life, all of it-year round, costs them approx. 5-6,000 / 100 days.
Austerity vs Abundance for your '100 days', which will you choose, Doug?
