The first thing am looking at is my annual"savings" of approximately $4,500 for summer slip rental at Brewers Glen Cove. Boat ownership on Long Island Sound comes with this cost for a slip--I'm avoiding it this summer.
I'm going to put that rental savings towards my 100 days cruising kitty without looking back for a second. Then, even last year, and the years before when I cruised for 6 weeks, it cost the Brewers rental plus the six weeks at other locations and for food and entertainment - I'm rolling that six week money into this summers cost, as well.
Bottom line estimate its whatever I spend this spring and summer will be not much more than an additional 30% boating costs above last year.
$120-150, I figure a average day -- that's a whole lot of real enjoyment, and I know sounds indeed decadent to most but I will consider it money well spent for this summers adventure. I'll keep a record for those who may be interested. Just for what its worth, I've never considered sailing roughing it and it is that attitude that has made it enjoyable for myself, and most importantly for my wife, and my family . Anyone who comes by gets a cold drink and a good meal, as well.
and importantly I will not have the house to pay RE taxes ( very big deal in Nassau Co.,NY), maintain and worry about, as well.
