Having left my old 38'x11' low decked boat, going below the Nonesuch, was outrageous!

A big step 'up' from the dock to the Nonesuch, I got an idea of how different a boat like this will be. Heights above water, were all off for me. Still, it doesn't prepare me for going down the(comparatively), long climb below. At the base of the ladder, the feeling is, 'wow', this is a summer cottage. Seriously! High ceilings, no obvious transition to decks outboard makes the space seem endless. High doors forward that say, 'rooms' for both the studio bedroom and separate bath and shower.

The 'kitchen' is amazing in that the stove and oven, ice box and sink are truly in their own space that could be used as others mingle around the cook between a commodious table/seating area. Then a love seat across if you tired of milling around.

Forward, a port side double inside the bedroom, is a marvel. But most of all, I'm standing 6', a forward port is at eye level! The roof is still high above my head as I gaze at the boat forward on the docks.

My wife remarked from afar looking at the broad stern, "Wow, that's a big boat!" She was surprised when I told her it's a 30'er. She'd be floored below, especially at just over 5' herself.

Part of the space mystery is old world - Cat Boat beam to length. But Nonesuch took it to extreme. Bobs wife bought this boat, and as retirees, I thought they were done with sailing after selling their last boat.

Boats like this don't appeal to the sailor in me(I like the feel of a real boat), but they do excite the design builder in me.

Like a project for Dwell magazine, I'm inspired to think of how I'd improve the dwelling aspect of a design like this, to make it more of a living space. I think with just a bit more length(32'?), this could make a suitable seasonal studio for even the non sailor that would be lured by the floating aspect. I see a trick of removing the engine to allow a stairway below.

So much more appeal than a Dwell shipping container, and it's "on the water".... Hmmm,....
