7 1/2 weeks and counting

The sale of our boat has gone much slower than anyone anticipated and certainly not on par to our previous boats. We had one sell in an hour, another in less than two weeks. The record was the Catalina 27 which never saw the for sale sign. I was carrying the sign down the dock and another club member saw the sign and bought the boat that day. We have had a few people inquire but no formal offer other than one for an even trade which we turned down. Everyone at our club that wanted the boat before it went up for sale now seem to be suffering from cash flow issues. I was told in the past that the magic date is July 4th. If you don't sell by July 4th you are either going to have to give it away or get very lucky. I guess I can understand that being we are only 8 weeks away from starting to haul boats for the season. I understand the broker can't make people inquire about the boat and he did warn us that Island Packets appeal to a select group of people. I believe he called it a "cult boat".

The Admiral and I have been discussing options and have decided that we are not going to give the boat away. I have read over and researched the suggestions made here for handling the mainsail and I think I would try a good set of lazy jacks before an in-boom furled main, however that is not ruling the in-boom furling out completely just yet. That would certainly take care of that issue. I also checked my owners manual for the autopilot and sure as heck it does have the "auto-tack" feature. I can see where that might help our situation trying to get the boat to turn under sail although it does seem to be a bit awkward? In any event, the weather has been total crap here so boating has also been slow. Actually, the weather pattern has not changed in about 2 years. All of that snow that we got last winter and the winter before is rain because it's too warm to snow!
