Good points Tom. I hadn't thought about that.
I rely on the lazyjacks to support the boom at rest (no topping lift). In my situation nylon is probably too stretchy. 5/16" Dacron double braid does the job.
I had a topping lift on my prior boat for a few years but removed it because it interfered with the mainsail roach.
