That moves the lazyjacks away from the sail enough so they don't interfere the sail, except at the very bottom, and allows you to sail with the lazyjacks in place. They'll gather the sail just as well when you lower it, and be even lazier lazy jacks.

My boat is rigged that way and I leave the lazyjacks deployed with the main raised.
