and give some thought to a performance motorsailer. We motored more than if we had a dedicated sailboat but we could pace a Nordhaven at 8 knots and when the magic happened. It was wonderful! On a passage from the Virgin Islands to the Turks & Cacios (80 hours) we sailed the entire way averaging 6 knots. If needed, we could motor all the way and more as we could move with only the motor for more than 100 hours.
As sailers, if we couldn't ever sail we would have missed that ability and probably quit boating completely after a couple of years. Instead, although we did wish we could sail in less wind (needed at least 8 knots of wind) the performance motorsailer was a very good decision and satisfied our 'free ride' needs. When the wind was perfect for the boat (15 just ahead of the beam) we could race almost anything with sails'.
When you look out of your area you have tremendous choices and are able to get better deals making the shipping to your area a freeby. Yeah, it's more work but worth it.
At least that's my opinion.
Good for you to get out of a boat you didn't satisfy you.
