We had announced it as an intended stop and this caused a friend to google it since he had never heard of it as a destination. Out of his research came the discovery of Reilly Harvey’s Mainstay Provisions. Reilly is an entrepreneurial young mother who grew up on nearby Andrew’s Island, and a great cook and baker. Dix harbor is not as crowded as some mid-coast destinations like Pulpit, but it does get a steady stream of cruisers in the short Maine summer. Andrew’s island lays about a half mile east of Dix, and Reilly saw an opportunity to combine her love of cooking and the water into a business. By appointment she will come to your boat and cook you a complete lobster dinner from her restored antique launch. Four of our boats called ahead and made the appointment for 5:30 PM about a week in advance of the appointed day. We managed to be at Dix Harbor by about 4 PM on the appointed Wednesday and sure enough about twenty past five a smiling young woman in a dress piloted her launch up to the side of our raft.
