Crimping is much faster (= cheaper) than soldering and can be done easily in locations where soldering would be difficult (no power, tight spaces, etc.). When I worked in the electrical/electronics shop in a navy yard back in the 70s we soldered everything except for high power RF (radar) where we used waveguide rather than wires.
