You're an architect; think of hanging one end of a floor, with a 20" span.

The other end of the span, is held up by the cockpit well which is supported by beams and posts to the hull. The maximum load on the span, is my can. Divide that weight by two, and that is the load distributed along the ledger. Plus the ledger pieces themselves have the grain running out of the tangent so a split along the curve is unlikely.

The original cockpit seats and bridge deck were hung by screws through the deck into the coamings and cabin back with a non adhesive sealant, between. That joint eventually failed in places and needed refastening. Epoxy is my addition that - along with screws - should be overkill for what the joint must bear.

The bigger load is in the beams, posts and their connection to the hull. They carry the entire load of the well and half the seat deck loads. Over time, the last cockpit well pushed a few of those posts off their bases and the well had sagged a bit. I'll be watching those for any movement.
