Software, a display and now touch, lets them do about anything a dedicated device can do.
Do you want wireless from the masthead? Perhaps not. But to the tablet, why not? Easy to plug in if necessary.
Problem is profits. Not that it's cheap to design your own MFD, but there is money to be made, helped by proprietary connections and protocols.
