Think grommets.

A row of grommets along the luff of the jib can make peeling it out of the furler groove a lot easier. When it's time to do it, just stuff a dozen cable ties in your pocket. As each grommet comes into reach, shove a cable tie through the grommet and around the foil - leaving it loose. The ties will act just like hanks and keep the luff of the sail under control. A few more ties down the length of the sail and you'll have a sausage that will lie there tamely while you hoist the chicken jib.
Obviously, the grommets have to be installed before you hoist the jib.
