Been down here since November 1, 2007 after sailing here from BC. Done 2 circuits of the Gulf of CA as well, in winter & summer. We live aboard 24/7. We don't take a 3-wk. sailing vacation & then return to an onshore house for most of the year. So, 24 mos. sailing in Mexico can be viewed as the equivalent of more than 24 Ha-Has, except unlike the Ha-Ha we've been here in all seasons & all weather conditions. Not including the 2 deliveries GB's done in 1 yr. from Maz to So.Cal.
It all depends on how you define "experience." We've met lots of people who tell us they've been "cruising" or "sailing" for 25 yrs., & are full of opinions, but as the conversation develops we learn that they've just taken a yearly 2-wk. cruise plus a few sailing weekends here & there. Do you think that kind of sailing translates into 25 yrs.' experience? OTOH, we've met people who have over 100,000 ocean miles - not just "sailing" miles, mind you - under their keels, & understand rules of the road & how to approach unknown ports. They have a different level of experience.
