people sailing to the South Pacific! I know it can be done but should it? There's a big difference between a Falmouth Cutter and a Coronado 25. They were sailing in an area that is bound to have rough weather, fog and heavy traffic. Is it any wonder that "some sort of an accident occurred"? You can bet they didn't have RADAR or a life raft. OK, I'm ready for the outrage that is going to be shoveled at me over this but so be it. I'm not in favor of all the kids sailing solo either. Yes, I believe they should be allowed to do it but the question is should they. I don't think so. At least pick a boat that has a chance. A Coronado 25 has a solid hull but it's just not up to that kind of a task. It would have had to have had major modifications and my guess is that it hadn't had anything of the sort. It's all very sad. IMHO
