at least CCTV cameras don't tail gate at 3am trying to make you "rabbit". Here its night vision scopes, pump up masts with telephoto lenses, helicopters with ginormous search-lights ... they may be filling a critical role (or not) but they sure as hell are a bunch of hot dogs, scare the crap out of you.

On the other hand, the UK seems to have gone completely nuts with CCTV, ASBOs and the like. We have all those, just no where to the same degree.
