regarding the quality of SS nuts and bolts in most marine hardware stores. Buyers in these stores usually shop price and some of the import bolts are pretty bad. You can find shops that deal with high quality fastenings in most large cities where specifications can be inquired about. In my past life, my working life, I dealt with nothing but Stainless Steel and Silicon Bronze nuts and bolts. Everything from 1 1/2 inch down to 4-40 was one or the other. I worked at a neuc plant right on the beach and it was really hard not to just run up the coast 10 miles to West Marine to get a small nut or bolt but I couldn't do it. I would have to send someone all the way into LA to get the proper bolt that I could count on. Most of the time I shop the marine hardware stores now but have been disappointed several time when I have ended up with rust under a cleat or stanchion base from a poor quality bolt.
