Don't make the project any bigger than it has to be. Anything on a boat can fail regardless of who makes it -- it's a hostile corrosive environment for anything mechanical or electronic.

How long has the present unit been installed? If it's older than 5 years you got some decent life out of it. If older than 7 you're doing good it owes you nothing.
