I had the same thing happen to me about this time a year ago, but I was crusing in SW Florida, not the BVI. I pulled out the defunct Freedom 20 unit and replaced it with a Xantrex MS2000 system in half a day. Most of the time was spent snaking wire to the new panel control unit. Wiring the inverter/charger itself was drop in simple.
Yes Xantrex products and their customer support leave much to be desired. The basic MS2000 works fine, but its software has some idiosyncrancies that Xantrex support staff haven't a clue about.
Another choice that is getting good reviews is Victron. Don't buy another Prosine. They are reported to be the least reliable and are not repairable.
Check out their physical dimensions and see if they will fit your installation. FWIW the Freedom is wide, MS2000 is like a cube and Victron is tall, but maybe can be layed down. So all have different shapes.
None will be cheap to ship to the BVI, but maybe easier in the USVI.
