After doing a fair amount of looking, hefting, pondering, I have ended up not buying any 7X50 binocs at this time. Frankly, I just have been unable to make up my mind so it's still on the table. I'm not in any rush since my next..and LAST..boat isn't done yet.
As I do bird watching from my window and around I did buy a pair of waterproof, roof prism 8X25 Kowa which the manufacturer states "BD25 Binocular are fully multi-coated for maximum light transmission and the precise Bak4 roof-prism features phase-correction coating (for unsurpassed sharpness). Kowa's proprietary C3 coating is applied to the roof prism to maximize light transmission and color reproduction."
So far they live up to the crisp to the edge view. They have twist up eyepieces which I'm not so fond of as just something else for me to break in my clumsiness but they seem like a good pair of binocs. At least I saw some birds in my backyard. Due to my feeders we get about a many varieties of birds, sometimes all in a day, occasionally a rara avis passing thru on its way to who knows where.
Hmph. All this was precipitated by my giving my 8X42 all around binocs to my stepson to go along with the astronomy stargazing by binocular book I gave him for Xmas. He lives north of Tim from this site in NoCal boondocks where he can actually see stars at night. I may well go with another pair of 8X42's or similar.
