The Nikons are my night glasses for the better light gathering and wide field of view. (You want bigger objective lens in a night glass for better light gathering capacity.) In day I also use the bearing compass feature when in doubt about whether we are on a collision course with another vessel. If relative bearing doesn't change over time, we're at risk.
But when I want to read a ship name or see finer detail, nothing beats the Fujinons. Would I buy them again??? Probably not (even though they're worth it) I would rather spend half the cost of the Fujinon I-S and get an AIS unit for that extra vessel info. A quality 7x50 bino is the way to go, IMHO.
BTW -- one of the major problems with cheaper binos is the quality of the hinge and focus mechanisms, and inability to hold otherwise good lenses in alignment. I think you do well if you opt for better names like Fujinon, Nikon, Canon, Steiner. Otherwise it's a crap shoot.
