I find a wax toilet ring works great to test the hull location. Simply mold it and stuff the transducer into it. I have a friend who did this about ten years ago and it is still in "test" mode..;) He never did permanently install it. The only draw back is that you'll need to clean the wax from the hull to install the permanent one..
