Good points all. This was one of those dense foam cushions with a thick cover. It worked quite well.

This also wasn't a Volvo Penta, but a Yanmar. There may have been a lever, but I never found it... I find it hard to believe that there wasn't something... on that I do agree. However something like an engine fuel cut off should be well marked, and accessible outside the engine compartment!

I no longer have access to that boat, (and don't much mind at all) so it is no longer my concern....

I just happened to find those few things a bit annoying, and somewhat surprising, in the design of a relatively new boat. I wasn't too keen on the B&R mast system either, which had it's own set of issues.

That boat was just another in a long list of learning experiences for me. I have to admit that is one advantage of crewing on other peoples' boats. I get to see a lot of what I do and don't like, and file all of that away in my brain.
