We put them on 9 years ago. Wanted Simpson davits but just couldn't afford the 8,000 they cost.
We cross brace with 2 cables. One is a fixed length and the other has a ratchet strap to snug it down pulling in the opposite direction. The cables go from the outside of one davit to the inside of the other and vise versa forming an X. The dingy goes nowhere. There's a stainless brace that goes from the end of one to the end of the other to keep them at a fixed distance apart. When we want to fold them we just take the ridged stainless brace off. If we're making a passage of more than a day at sea we take the engine off and put it on the stern rail. We've carried our 150 lb AB with a 15 hp Yamaha everywhere that way.
