Island Time WiFi
In Response To: WiFi antenna...again! ()

We have been using the Island Time WiFi system for over 2 years and we have been very pleased with it. We have regularly gotten good reception from as far away as 1/2 mile from an access point and sometimes as far away as a mile. A real plus in using Island Time's client bridge is Bob Stewart, a cruising sailor who owns the company. He is just a telephone call or email away if any problems arise and he is very responsive. He is now using a Ubiquiti 2HP Bullet in his system. This 1000mW unit is contained in a small waterproof PVC cylinder to which an 8dB omnidirectional antenna is attached by way of a screw-in base, removing the need for any coaxial cable. An ethernet (CAT 5) wire plugs into a small power injector (POI) which provides 12V to power the board in the Bullet. The unit attaches to your PC via an ethernet wire (Cat5). If you will be using WiFi close to the broadcast source as in a marina, the Island Time unit is probably not needed, but when at anchor some distance from the source, it really performs well.
