You're making this hard for yourself. Drilling the pedestal will give a better result IMHO
Where to drill...
I never think drilling stainless is fun
Stainless tubing is very hard to drill

My take: punch hole for a starter. Cobalt bits. Start with a small bit.....
Oops. Missed the platinum bits but cobalt oughta work, too.
