I'm not trying to push this to get that last half knot out (1/2 knot in my case... 2 knots in your case). But I have been running between 2000 and 2500 typically, and have not even come close to 3000 RPM.
While I will obviously reduce fuel consumption the faster I go, it appears by the nomenclature plate, that I have quite a bit of RPMs to go... and 2800-3000 might make a better "top end" for me.
If I really want speed... I best sail... cause that 13HP just isn't gonna push my 10,000 lbs displacement boat fast... the sails do a fine job of that. Under power, I typically make 4.25 knots (at 2500 RPM); under sail in 10 knots of wind, I can do 5.3+ knots on a reach. I've had it to 6.3 knots under sail. I think I'd have to be going "downhill" for the engine to do that.
She has a fine little auxiliary engine... but she isn't highly powered, like some more modern boats can be.
On the plus side, I'm having fun, and learning how to handle and compensate for the size, and weight of the boat. I don't even try to back out of the slip anymore... (prop walk with a full keel can present it's own "fun") it's such a small boat, I simply push it out and around and climb aboard. Works great!
On the flip side... before too long, I'll be using that propwalk to my advantage, no doubt. It all comes with the personality of the boat.
Fair winds.
