So true. You can easily see the wild economic seasonal swings on these little islands.

While there is a ferry as Jerry notes, it's still not easy to get to compared to islands connected by bridges or even those large populated islands with regular commuter lines. I suspect the lights go quite dim on Cutty after October.

To actually live there and make a living can't be easy for most people these days.

The numbers won't be there to support the restaurant, the few little shops. Even the small store on the island likely goes nearly to sleep. The few tiny businesses on the wharf must close down(they only open a few hours a day, if at all). The marina closes, the boats stop coming.

Due to it's remoteness, this island doesn't see a huge influx of customers even in season.

Most likely, maintaining buildings is a major employer of a handful. A few still fish, a few may maintain boats. People that do live there may do several things to help get by.
