Actually the drill attachment did work, but we didn't think it pumped as much oil out as our old Stearns electric pump. The Stearns died though after just 3 oil changes, so I wouldn't recommend that one either. We didn't purchase a drill attachment, if that tells you anything!
Currently we're using a Jabsco Little Pal Hand Pump - not ideal, but it works. It is messy to clean up, but not as messy as some of the other "solutions" we've tried!
We have very little clearance below our diesel and haven't found anything yet that will fit to pump oil out the drain plug. That's one of the items high on our priority list for the "mini-refit" we're doing on Winterlude in Punta Gorda FL this winter. We're hoping a diesel mechanic will be able to fit the drain plug with a pump or something to easily change the oil. Yes, it will be more expensive, but currently we waste at least a half a day changing the oil. At least the Jabsco hand pump has eliminated all the oil that I have to clean up before it gets to the bilge, but it's still not ideal. It will remain a good backup system, though - small, compact, inexpensive and it works!
Cheers! Jan
