and maybe a little about wetted area. We do 7 knots in 6 knots true wind broad reaching. And I haven't yet tried flying all of the cloth at once (asym and mizzen staysail). Nothing that special about the boat except it has a lot of sail area. Upwind 10 knots true is fully powered up, much above that and I begin to think about reefing.
The caveat is that all of this assumes flat water. With light wind and a sloppy sea, life is difficult for the sails, and I just can't get them working efficiently. That is one of the reasons we ended up motoring so often last summer: had the water been flat there was enough wind to make good progress, but with the left over 2 direction wave trains that were common, the rolling, slatting, and banging was torture.
