Don't know about the J40, but the J105 I race on...

does quite well with high winds... we've surfed waves and had the boat up to 15 knts speed under the right conditions. I will admit however that confused seas would bounce the thing around like an empty clorox bottle.

With confused seas, the bow of the J-105 crashes hard as it slams down off the waves.

My little Orion 27 mashes through seas (although I have never had it in 10 foot seas... at most perhaps 5 foot seas.) The motion, sound and feel are totally different. It is an interesting contrast in "comfort factor."
