it can serve as a back-up chartplotter if the main unit isn't working. Also, if the boat loses electrical power, it can be used with AA
batteries. Plus, it can used it for dinghy navigation.

I must admit that once you start using a chartplotter you get spoiled. That being the case, it seems like a good idea to have
a back-up.
