There is an article in December's Cruising World (pg 34) about a woman whose Najad 361 went ashore when her autopilot went crazy because the batteries were low on the autopilot's remote; or at least that is what is claimed. This happened 60 miles short of, up until then, a successful solo circumnavigation. I seem to have heard, perhaps on this board and perhaps from Jon, of a similar episode. While certainly questioning how one could be so close to a beach or reef and be asleep, if the problem regarding the autopilot is true, would this not be a good time for all remotes for autopilots to go overboard?
Thoughts?
