I could understand it if they had provided a way to use rechargeable batteries, and to recharge them while still in the unit. But you need to replace those pretty frequently. Fortunately the seal is quite good without using the screws and the rubber seals hold the cover well, so I never use 'em. I don't even know where those screws are anymore.
