I searched the net but can't find an end-on image. Here's a drawing showing side view. Note the dotted line about half way down indicating the shift to a wider bottom. As for sealing the iron -- I tried for 8 years and ALWAYS ended the season with rust seeping through the coating in spots and especially at the keel attachment to the hull. The Shark Association common wisdom of the day (1980's) was to use coal-tar epoxy. Awful stuff to try to grind or fair.
